WhatsApp Tests New Cover Photo Feature to Boost Profile Personalisation

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

WhatsApp is planning to make user profiles more personalised by testing a new cover photo feature, according to reports from WABetaInfo. The upcoming feature will allow users to add a wide image to their profile, giving it a more unique and expressive look.

Setting up a cover photo is expected to be simple. Users will be able to choose an image from their phone’s gallery and adjust its position, change it whenever they like, or remove it entirely. Importantly, the new cover photo will not replace or affect the existing profile picture or any other account information.

To maintain privacy, WhatsApp will introduce visibility controls for cover photos. Similar to current settings for “Last Seen,” “Profile Photo,” and “About,” users will be able to decide who can view their cover image, such as everyone, contacts only, or selected users.

The Meta-owned messaging platform is also developing improvements to username privacy. At present, usernames can be found through a global search, allowing anyone to send a message. With the new update, users will need a special code linked to the username before initiating contact.

These updates highlight WhatsApp’s growing focus on personalisation and privacy, offering users more control over how they present themselves and who can reach them.
