ISLAMABAD: President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, passed away on Saturday at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) media office confirmed.
According to sources, Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry had been undergoing medical treatment in Islamabad for some time. His death has sparked widespread grief across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and among Kashmiri communities around the world.
Funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday at 3:00 pm in his native village of Chichiyan in Mirpur district, family sources said. A large number of political leaders, party workers and members of the public are expected to attend.
Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry was a seasoned politician and a prominent figure in AJK politics, known for his long-standing commitment to the Kashmiri cause and public service. Over the course of his career he played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of the region and was widely regarded for his leadership and advocacy for the rights of Kashmiris.
