ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the first meeting of US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace next week in Washingtonthe Foreign Office confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the premier would participate in the meeting scheduled for February 19. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will accompany the prime minister.
The “Board of Peace initially proposed under President Trump’s Gaza plan to oversee temporary governance arrangements, was later expanded to address broader global conflicts. The initiative launched in late January has received cautious responses internationally with some analysts expressing concerns about its potential implications for the United Nations’ role.
Pakistan has stated that its decision to join the board is aimed at supporting peace efforts within the framework of the UN Security Council. We have joined the BoP in good faith Andrabi said adding that Pakistan is participating as part of a collective voice of eight Islamic Arab countries.
Sources said Prime Minister Sharif will visit Germany from February 13 to 15 to attend the Munich Security Conference before departing for Washington.
Pakistan has rejected suggestions linking its participation to the Abraham Accords, reiterating its long-standing policy on normalization agreements.
