UK Woman Briefly Becomes World’s Richest on Gift Card Error

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

A 29 year old businesswoman from Nottingham, UK, Sophie Downing, briefly became the world’s richest woman when a gift card showed an astounding balance of €63 quadrillion 63 followed by 15 zeros.

According to the BBC Sophie had received a €10 ($14 approx.) coffee shop gift card for Christmas. When she bought a matcha latte the receipt displayed the enormous remaining balance, far exceeding Elon Musk’s net worth nearly 100,000 times over and 670 times larger than the global economy.

The coffee shop later confirmed this was an administrative error. A spokesperson explained that the gift card number had been mistakenly entered in the field for the card’s value leading to the unrealistic figure on the receipt. Sophie was charged correctly and the card held the proper balance. She later received a corrected receipt.

Sophie told reporters she was simply enjoying being the richest woman in the world on paper adding humor to the extraordinary mistake that briefly made her richer than anyone on Earth.
