Secret tip-off leads to swift action as unsafe meat meant for hotels is destroyed on the spot
SARGODHA: Acting on a confidential tip-off, the Punjab Food Authority carried out a major operation in Kot Momin, seizing 800 kilograms of meat from a vehicle allegedly transporting meat from diseased animals.
Officials set up a checkpoint and intercepted the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that no documentation or record of the meat was available at the spot. Fearing that the substandard and potentially stale meat was intended for supply to local hotels and restaurants, the team immediately destroyed the entire consignment.
A veterinary doctor present during the raid examined the meat and declared it unfit for human consumption, citing serious health risks. The vehicle was taken into custody by police, and further investigations have been initiated to trace those involved in the illegal supply chain.
The Food Authority urged citizens to report food safety violations by calling its helpline at 1223, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring safe and hygienic food across the region.
