Commuters advised to avoid unnecessary travel as multiple routes across the capital face restrictions.
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Friday issued a detailed traffic advisory announcing major road closures across the capital ahead of Jumma-tul-Wida and the Al-Quds rally, urging citizens to plan their travel routes carefully.
According to officials, heightened security measures have been implemented in and around the high-security Red Zone. Authorities said Margalla Road will remain the only open route providing access to the Red Zone, while all other internal roads in the area will stay closed.
The advisory also stated that all roads leading to and from Iran Avenue will be completely shut for traffic during the day.
Several important routes across Islamabad will face temporary closures. These include the Chand Tara Flyover on Srinagar Highway heading towards Serena Chowk and Suhrawardy Road in the Aabpara area, which will remain fully closed for both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Traffic movement will also be suspended on key routes such as Recep Tayyip Erdogan Flyover to Jinnah Avenue, Kulsoom Plaza Chowk to Seventh Avenue Bridge, Fazal-e-Haq Road to Geo Chowk, and Haji Camp Chowk to Islamabad Chowk, which authorities confirmed will remain completely closed.
Meanwhile, IJP Road towards Gundam Gomada will be closed from Faqir Api Road, while the service road from NESCOM to I-10 Sector and the I-8 Double Road connecting to IJP Road will also remain shut.
Partial closures will affect Club Road from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Park Road from Shahzad Town to Musharraf Chowk, where one side of the road will remain blocked.
Police have advised residents to use alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary movement during the day.
For real-time updates, citizens can contact the police helpline 15, the traffic helpline 1915, or tune in to Islamabad Traffic Police FM 92.4 for the latest traffic information. Authorities said the measures are aimed at ensuring security and smooth traffic management in the federal capital.
