AJK Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani says internet services at educational institutions and road links with Punjab and KP will be restored soon.
MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gillani has announced plans to restore internet services at educational institutions and reopen road links connecting the region with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within days.
Speaking at the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad, Gillani said the prolonged internet disruption had affected students and created serious difficulties for businesses, particularly in Mirpur. He said the government was also preparing measures to support traders who suffered financial losses during the shutdown and recent unrest.
The prime minister said restoring educational activities was among the government’s immediate priorities, expressing concern over the impact of the disruption on children’s studies. He pledged efforts to resume internet services at educational institutions within the next few days.
Gillani also said restrictions on roads connecting AJK with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be lifted within one or two days. He assured residents that movement would be allowed without unnecessary barriers once the restrictions were removed.
On the political situation, Gillani said his government wanted to bring political groups and the people together to promote stability and development in the region. He stressed that political differences should not divide the state or damage AJK’s image outside the region.
Expressing confidence in his cabinet and newly elected young PML-N lawmakers, Gillani said the government had the capacity to fulfill its commitments. He said the emergence of younger legislators had changed the political landscape and promised that their performance would become visible through practical measures.
The AJK premier also praised former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for increasing the region’s development budget, saying additional resources had helped accelerate development projects and improve infrastructure.
He thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for establishing Danish schools in four AJK districts, calling the initiative an important step toward expanding educational opportunities for local children.
Gillani also urged the media to help create a constructive atmosphere in AJK, calling for greater attention to development, education and public welfare rather than controversies and social media popularity.
Earlier, Gillani inspected a terminal prepared for the launch of green electric buses provided to AJK by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Officials briefed him on proposed routes, terminal facilities and operational arrangements. Gillani inspected the buses and directed relevant departments to ensure proper preparations for the service.
He thanked Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for fulfilling their commitment to provide electric buses to AJK, saying the initiative would improve public transport, ease transportation difficulties and provide better facilities to residents.
