Apple is reportedly developing smart glasses that could evolve into powerful health and fitness companions, expanding its wearable ecosystem beyond the Apple Watch.
Apple is reportedly developing a new generation of smart glasses that could eventually become a key part of its expanding health and fitness ecosystem. While the first version is expected to prioritize essential smart features, future models may introduce advanced wellness tools designed to help users monitor their health throughout the day.
The reported project reflects Apple’s broader strategy of extending its health-focused technology beyond the Apple Watch. The company is said to be exploring lightweight wearable devices capable of delivering continuous health insights while offering greater comfort than existing mixed-reality headsets.
Apple previously explored integrating fitness capabilities into its Vision Pro headset. Early concepts reportedly included a dedicated Apple Fitness+ experience that would guide users through workouts while tracking body movements in real time. The technology was designed to analyze posture, exercise form, and movement patterns, providing detailed performance feedback during training sessions.
Despite developing sophisticated body-tracking technology, Apple reportedly decided not to launch these features with Vision Pro. The headset’s relatively heavy design made it less suitable for extended physical activity, limiting its practicality as a fitness device.
Instead, Apple is believed to be shifting its long-term fitness ambitions toward smart glasses. Their lighter form factor could offer a more comfortable platform for health monitoring and fitness experiences without the challenges associated with bulkier headsets.
Recent reports also suggest the company is expanding its workforce by recruiting specialists in wearable technology, health innovation, and spatial computing. These hiring efforts indicate Apple remains committed to advancing future vision-based products with enhanced wellness capabilities.
Industry analysts have further suggested that future versions of Apple’s smart glasses could feature heart-rate monitoring technology similar to sensors reportedly under development for upcoming AirPods. If introduced, such capabilities would allow users to track important health metrics without relying exclusively on an Apple Watch.
