Leading Bollywood celebrities praised India’s youth-led protest movement after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, describing the development as a significant moment for student activism and democratic participation.
WEB DESK: Several Bollywood celebrities have welcomed the resignation of Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following weeks of nationwide student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with many describing the development as a landmark victory for India’s youth movement.
Actress Sonakshi Sinha shared an Instagram video celebrating the outcome and praised Generation Z for its role in the protests. Addressing young demonstrators, she said they might not fully realize the impact of their actions and admitted she had underestimated their determination. She also remarked that she wished she belonged to Gen Z.
Alia Bhatt also reacted on Instagram, writing, “Gen Z showed up, and the rest is history,” while actor Ibrahim Ali Khan posted, “Glad the voice was heard. Ho gaya bro.” According to Indian media, Ibrahim’s remark appeared to reference an earlier comment linked to activist Sonam Wangchuk’s campaign.
Sara Ali Khan posted a brief message reading “Democracy” alongside heart, Indian flag and folded hands emojis.
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi called the resignation an important achievement for students but stressed that broader reforms remain necessary. Actor Prakash Raj congratulated protesters, Sonam Wangchuk and others who backed the movement, saying the episode demonstrated that united citizens could compel governments to respond to public demands.
Priyanka Chopra highlighted the scale of the campaign, noting that the resignation came after nearly a month of nationwide demonstrations and Sonam Wangchuk’s prolonged hunger strike. Actress Vaani Kapoor also paid tribute to students who continued raising their voices despite sustained protests.
Several other entertainment personalities, including Tina Datta, Ayesha Kanga, Malaika Arora, Anjali Sivaraman and others, also expressed support for the student movement through social media posts.
Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation followed mounting pressure over the handling of the NEET-UG 2026 examination controversy. The CJP-led protests expanded into a broader youth movement demanding accountability, examination reforms and action over alleged failures in the education system. Protest organizers later announced they were ending demonstrations after the government accepted their key demands, including the minister’s resignation.
