Dhaka: The second ODI of the three-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh became the center of controversy when Bangladeshi captain Mehedi Hasan ran out Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha in a situation that sparked criticism for lacking sportsmanship.
The incident occurred in Pakistan’s innings during the 39th over. Muhammad Rizwan played a defensive straight shot off Mehedi Hasan’s delivery and the ball ricocheted off the bowler’s feet. Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha at the non striker’s end had left the crease. Attempting to return the ball to the bowler Salman was too late as Mehedi Hasan collected it and hit the stumps resulting in a run out decision from the third umpire.
Salman Ali Agha expressed visible anger while walking back to the pavilion. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das appeared upset but Rizwan the umpires and teammates calmed him down.
The video of the controversial run out quickly went viral on social media, drawing criticism from fans and former cricketers. Former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja acknowledged that Salman was technically out but expressed regret over the lack of sportsmanship. Former captain Mohammad Hafeez also criticized Mehedi Hasan for the decision.
In the match Pakistan set Bangladesh a target of 275 runs and Bangladesh managed 274 runs in their 48th over.
