Donald Trump President of the United States said on Friday that he feels honored to be targeting Iran’s leadership during the ongoing conflict with Iran. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social Trump harshly criticized Iranian leaders and defended the military campaign.
In the post shared shortly after midnight in Washington, Trump accused Iranian authorities of being responsible for violence around the world for decades. He said that as the 47th president of the United States, he was now leading efforts to eliminate what he described as threats posed by Iran’s leadership.
The remarks came as reports indicated that several senior Iranian figures including the country’s long time supreme leader Ali Khamenei had been assassinated since the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran escalated on February 28.
Trump also criticized media reports questioning the effectiveness of the military campaign, insisting that Iranian forces were being severely weakened.
Meanwhile U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the American military planned to intensify strikes on Iran. Speaking at a press conference he stated that Friday would see the highest volume of U.S. airstrikes carried out over Iran so far in the conflict.
