CTD kills two high-profile militants in Peshawar ambush, hunt underway for fleeing suspects
PESHAWAR: Two highly wanted militants were killed during a targeted operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) near the Northern Bypass in Peshawar, officials said.
Acting on credible intelligence, CTD’s SWAT team carried out an ambush in the Regi Northern Bypass area, leading to an exchange of fire with suspected militants. Authorities confirmed that two suspects, identified as Abbas and Usman, were killed during the encounter.
According to CTD officials, the militants were directly involved in the killing of Constable Sanaullah. During the operation, law enforcement recovered the slain constable’s mobile phone from Abbas, further linking him to the crime.
Officials said Abbas was wanted in at least 11 terrorism-related cases, including incidents that resulted in the deaths of five police personnel and injuries to more than a dozen individuals.
Meanwhile, several accomplices managed to flee under the cover of darkness. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the remaining suspects.
