HEC’s four-day programme focused on AI literacy, ethical use, academic integrity and practical applications in teaching, research and assessment.
ISLAMABAD: The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has concluded a four-day faculty training programme aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence literacy across public sector higher education institutions.
Titled “AI Literacy for Educators: Building AI-Ready Institutions,” the programme brought together 32 lecturers and assistant professors from public sector higher education institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for in-person participation at the HEC Smart Classroom.
More than 300 additional faculty members joined the programme through university-based Smart Classrooms and Video Conference Rooms, bringing total participation to more than 332 faculty members.
The training was designed to help educators understand, critically evaluate and integrate AI into teaching, learning, research, assessment and broader academic practices. It combined conceptual learning, practical exercises, critical reflection and applications of AI across different academic settings.
The technology-enabled format allowed faculty members at participating universities to attend live sessions remotely and interact with the resource person in real time.
NAHE Managing Director Dr. Noor Amna Malik attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and highlighted the growing impact of AI on higher education. She said AI is rapidly changing how knowledge is created, taught, assessed, researched and applied.
Dr. Malik urged universities to prepare faculty and students for an AI-enabled academic environment while ensuring that technological progress remains aligned with academic quality, ethical principles, human judgment and institutional responsibility.
She stressed that AI literacy extends beyond simply learning to operate AI tools. Faculty members, she said, also need to understand AI systems, including their capabilities, limitations and implications for academic work.
The programme also addressed academic integrity, evaluation of AI-generated content, privacy and intellectual property protection, as well as the need for human oversight in teaching, assessment, research and academic decision-making.
Participants received practical exposure to AI applications in curriculum and course design, lesson planning, teaching resources, academic writing, research support, assessment, student feedback, data analytics, communication and professional productivity.
