Iran says it will maintain full military readiness despite renewed diplomatic efforts with the United States, underscoring its commitment to strengthening national defence amid regional tensions.
TEHRAN: Iran has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its military capabilities, declaring that every threat from its adversaries will be treated as real and used to strengthen the country’s defence preparedness.
Acting Defence Minister Seyed Majid Ibn al-Reza made the remarks after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had postponed a planned military strike against Iran in favor of restarting diplomatic negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement shared on X, Ibn al-Reza said Iran views hostile statements from its rivals as part of psychological and cognitive warfare but stressed that Tehran would never underestimate any warning. He said every threat would receive a serious response and serve as an opportunity to improve Iran’s military readiness.
According to the acting defence minister, Iran’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond to any potential escalation. He added that the country would continue investing in its defensive capabilities to ensure it is never caught off guard, regardless of ongoing diplomatic developments.
The comments come as uncertainty continues over the future of US-Iran relations. While both sides have signaled an interest in diplomacy, officials in Tehran insist that negotiations will not reduce the country’s military vigilance.
Earlier, President Trump said the United States had suspended plans for military action after receiving requests from Iran and several Middle Eastern countries to allow diplomacy another opportunity. He stated that the upcoming discussions would focus on keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international shipping and addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically significant waterways, carrying a substantial share of global oil exports. Any disruption to shipping through the strait could have far-reaching consequences for international energy markets and regional stability.
