Pakistan’s top diplomat is set to represent the country at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, where regional cooperation and key diplomatic issues are expected to dominate discussions.
WEB DESK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, marking Pakistan’s participation in one of the region’s most significant diplomatic forums.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar was welcomed upon arrival by Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister along with Pakistan’s ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. He is leading the Pakistani delegation at the high-level gathering of SCO foreign ministers.
During the visit, Dar is scheduled to attend an informal dinner hosted for the participating foreign ministers ahead of the official meeting. He is also expected to hold discussions with his counterparts on the agenda of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers, focusing on regional cooperation and matters of shared interest.
The Council of Foreign Ministers is one of the SCO’s principal decision-making bodies, responsible for preparing the agenda and recommendations for the organisation’s annual summit of heads of state. Meetings typically address regional security, economic cooperation, connectivity, trade, counterterrorism, and political coordination among member states.
Pakistan has remained an active member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation since becoming a full member in 2017. The platform provides Islamabad with an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic engagement with regional partners, including China, Russia, and Central Asian countries, while promoting collaboration on security and economic initiatives.
