Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned attacks on Saudi oil tankers, calling them a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the recent Houthi militia attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, reaffirming Pakistan’s full support for the Kingdom during a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to a statement shared by the prime minister on X, Shehbaz Sharif described the attacks as “unacceptable” and said they represented a clear violation of international law. He warned that targeting commercial shipping threatens freedom of navigation, disrupts international trade routes, and undermines peace, security, and stability across the region.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan stands firmly with Saudi Arabia, stating that he, along with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the people of Pakistan, fully supports the Saudi leadership and its people during the ongoing regional tensions.
Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity. He assured Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that Pakistan would continue working closely with Saudi Arabia and the international community to promote regional peace, safeguard maritime security, and ensure the uninterrupted movement of lawful commercial shipping through the Red Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, and surrounding waters.
During the conversation, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman thanked Pakistan for its continued support and highlighted the longstanding fraternal relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed his best wishes to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The latest remarks follow a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office a day earlier, which strongly condemned threats by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The Foreign Office warned that any attack on Pakistani-flagged vessels or Pakistan’s maritime interests would be regarded as a serious threat to national security. It added that Pakistan reserves the inherent right to self-defence under the UN Charter and international law if its maritime interests are targeted.
