Ishaq Dar’s Surprise Washington Visit Puts Regional Security in Spotlight

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Washington, D.C. on an official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and the United States amid evolving regional challenges.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar was received at the airport by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh along with senior officials of the Pakistani Embassy.

During the visit, Dar is scheduled to hold key meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the US National Security Advisor. The discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, diplomatic cooperation, and regional developments affecting South Asia and the broader region.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said the talks would cover a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including regional security dynamics and cooperation on strategic matters. The visit comes at a significant time as Islamabad and Washington continue efforts to maintain diplomatic coordination on regional peace and security challenges.

Recent high-level contacts indicate efforts from both countries to sustain constructive engagement on key international and regional issues.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Dar will conclude his official engagements in Washington and return to Islamabad later the same day following the completion of his scheduled meetings.
