Karan Johar praised Mirzapur: The Movie after watching its theatrical release, highlighting its returning characters and new additions.
Karan Johar has given a strong endorsement to Mirzapur: The Movie after watching the film on its opening day, describing the latest chapter of the popular franchise as a “solid, kadak, masaledar ride.”
The filmmaker shared his reaction on Instagram Stories, praising the film’s ensemble cast and saying he thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical adaptation. Johar also said that viewers who have not watched the original series could still enjoy the movie.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie brings back several familiar faces from the Prime Video franchise, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal and Shweta Tripathi. Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan join the cast with new roles and add fresh dynamics to the story.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the film expands the Mirzapur universe from streaming to the big screen, continuing its focus on power struggles, rivalries and the franchise’s established characters.
Johar specifically praised the way the film balances its returning characters with newcomers. His comments come as the movie generates attention following its Sept. 4 theatrical release.
The film also recorded a strong opening at the Indian box office. Early estimates put its first-day India net collection at around Rs 24.75 crore, while Bollywood Hungama reported an opening-day figure of Rs 24.47 crore.
