Police say armed assailants attacked CCD convoy during recovery operation, leading to deaths of three detained robbery suspects in Khanewal district.
KHANEWAL: Three suspects arrested in a recent robbery case in Kot Islam were killed during a police encounter after armed assailants allegedly attacked a Crime Control Department (CCD) team during a recovery operation, police said on Tuesday.
According to police officials, the suspects identified as Ahmed Sargana, Ansar Malkanah, and Asdi Gul were being transported to different areas of Jahanian, Khanewal, and Mian Channu for recovery of stolen goods linked to a recent robbery incident.
Authorities said that during the operation, unidentified armed men opened fire on the police convoy, triggering an exchange of gunfire. In the crossfire, all three detained suspects were killed, while the attackers managed to flee the scene.
Police said the deceased individuals were involved in the Kot Islam robbery case and were expected to lead investigators to further recoveries and possible accomplices.
Following the incident, security was tightened in the surrounding areas, and additional police units were deployed to trace the attackers. A search operation has been launched across multiple nearby localities.
Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the assailants, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the attack was an organized rescue attempt or a targeted ambush aimed at disrupting the investigation.
The bodies were shifted to a local hospital for post-mortem examination, while law enforcement agencies continue to gather forensic evidence from the scene.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that all individuals involved in criminal activity are brought to justice.
