Inspector General KP issues Standing Order No. 5, mandating standardized uniform across all districts with strict enforcement measures
PESHAWAR: The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued Standing Order No. 5, introducing a mandatory standardized uniform policy aimed at ensuring discipline, uniformity, and professionalism across the provincial police force.
According to the official directive, all police personnel across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including newly merged tribal districts, are now required to wear the prescribed uniform consisting of an olive green shirt and khaki trousers while on duty.
The order explicitly bans the use of traditional attire during duty hours, including shalwar kameez, waistcoats, and sandals. Authorities stated that the long-standing traditional dress code, in place for over a century, has been abolished with immediate effect.
The directive outlines specific uniform requirements for different ranks. Constables up to inspectors must wear olive green shirts, khaki trousers, black boots, black belts, name plates, and appropriate rank insignia. Gazetted officers are also required to follow the standardized dress code with rank badges.
District Police Officers (DPOs) have been tasked with ensuring the provision of new uniforms through police lines in their respective districts. The order mandates that all personnel report for duty in the new uniform starting the day after issuance.
Strict disciplinary action has been warned against non-compliance. Officials stated that any officer found violating the uniform policy will face departmental proceedings under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Rules 1975, with such violations being treated as misconduct.
Authorities emphasized that the move is part of broader reforms to modernize the police force and enhance its professional image. Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to ensure that all subordinate staff are informed and that the order is fully implemented across the province.
