Emergency teams rushed to rescue trapped students after a tuition center roof collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area, triggering a criminal investigation into alleged negligence.
Pakistan witnessed another heartbreaking tragedy after the roof of a tuition center collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area, leaving at least 14 children dead and 19 others injured, according to hospital sources. The victims were reportedly aged 15 years or younger, making the incident one of the deadliest building collapses involving students in recent years.
Authorities said two rooms of the residential building had been converted into a tuition academy. Initial findings suggest the roof collapsed because a heavy layer of soil had accumulated on top of the structure, raising serious concerns about the building’s safety and maintenance.
Rescue 1122, police, and the district administration launched an immediate rescue operation, removing debris and shifting injured children to Kahna Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Hospital officials said five children remain under treatment and are currently out of danger, while Lahore General Hospital declared an emergency to handle casualties.
According to police, the academy contractor has been arrested, while the building owner and another individual have been taken into custody as investigators examine possible criminal negligence. Faisal Kamran personally visited the site, supervised rescue efforts, and ordered all available resources to be deployed.
The Lahore tragedy came hours after reports from Umerkot indicated that three children died after a school wall collapsed, bringing the reported death toll from the two incidents to 17 children in a single day. Authorities are continuing investigations into both disasters.
