Punjab CM orders timely salaries, stricter worker performance monitoring and stronger sanitation measures across the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered that workers employed under the Sutrah Punjab programme receive their salaries no later than the fifth day of every month, while directing authorities to strengthen monitoring of the province-wide sanitation initiative.
According to an official statement, Maryam Nawaz also instructed companies responsible for paying the workers to submit monthly reports confirming whether salaries had been disbursed on time. The move is aimed at ensuring greater financial certainty for sanitation workers and improving accountability within the programme.
The chief minister ordered a zero-tolerance policy toward workers who fail to perform their assigned duties. She also directed officials to formulate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for regular assessments of workers’ performance, with the objective of improving efficiency and service delivery.
Maryam Nawaz placed particular emphasis on cleanliness at fruit and vegetable markets, where waste accumulation can create significant sanitation challenges. She called for additional efforts to improve cleanliness standards across Punjab.
Under the new directives, major roads are to be washed and cleaned from 5 a.m. Officials were also instructed to ensure door-to-door waste collection and maintain cleanliness around schools, colleges, universities and hospitals.
The chief minister further ordered the introduction of uniform garbage bins and waste bags in markets and commercial areas. Authorities were directed to establish fixed schedules for removing waste from commercial zones and to ensure that vacant plots are also regularly cleaned.
