Iranian media says the masked individual seen during Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral prayers was his great-grandson, who reportedly concealed facial injuries sustained in the February airstrikes.
Iranian media has identified the masked figure whose appearance at the funeral prayers of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei triggered widespread speculation, bringing days of online debate to an end.
According to Iranian reports, the individual was Mohammad Javad Khamenei, the great-grandson of the late leader and son of Mustafa Khamenei, Ayatollah Khamenei’s eldest son. He reportedly wore a black face mask to hide severe facial injuries and burn scars allegedly sustained during the February 28 airstrikes that, according to the reports, also killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The unidentified figure had sparked intense discussion across social media, with many users initially speculating that he was Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Previous reports claimed Mojtaba survived the same attack after being in another room, suffering injuries to his arms, hands, and legs before receiving medical treatment.
Iranian media further claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei has not made any public appearances or speeches since the incident. However, reports suggest he continues to communicate with senior military officials and leading religious figures through handwritten messages.
