Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed solidarity with Iran following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing the development as a moment of “deep emotional, political and national implications” for the Iranian people.
In a post on X, the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz conveyed heartfelt condolences to Tehran, calling Khamenei’s death a profound and irreparable loss.
“This is a significant moment in the history of Iran,” Sharif wrote, adding that he stands with the Iranian nation during its period of mourning and extends sympathies to grieving families.
Sharif also underscored the importance of “stability, peace and mutual respect among nations,” particularly in South Asia and the Middle East, as tensions escalate after recent military strikes involving the United States and Israel.
He concluded with prayers for the departed leader and expressed hope that Iran would demonstrate resilience and steadfastness in confronting the aftermath of the tragedy.
The statement comes amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty across the region.
