Rain and snowfall sweep across multiple regions, triggering safety warnings and emergency directives
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh nationwide alert forecasting more rain and snowfall in several parts of the country, as temperatures continue to fall following widespread precipitation.
Rain was recorded in multiple cities including Lodhran, Jhang, Peshawar, Bajaur and Malakand, bringing cooler and more pleasant weather conditions. Intermittent rainfall also persisted in North Waziristan, where heavy showers caused a sharp drop in temperature and raised water levels in local streams.
In northern mountainous areas, snowfall continued overnight at Babusar Top and near Nanga Parbat. Meanwhile, Chilas experienced intermittent rain, adding to the cold conditions.
In Lahore, steady rainfall lasting nearly six hours prompted provincial authorities to direct the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to ensure immediate drainage in low-lying areas. Officials were instructed to maintain surveillance of major roads and underpasses and implement safety measures at construction sites.
A tragic incident was reported in Waris Khel, where a roof collapse due to rain left three children dead and two others injured.
The NDMA warned that more snowfall is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging all provincial and district authorities to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.
