Sudden roof collapse during heavy rainfall leaves a family devastated in Bannu.
BANNU: Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in the northwestern district of Bannu, where a house roof collapse killed three children and injured two others, according to rescue officials on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the Wreshmi Kala Mandan area, where the house of a resident identified as Sher Muhammad caved in amid intense rainfall. Rescue officials from Rescue 1122 said the ceiling suddenly gave way, trapping five children, three sons and two daughters under the debris.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and launched a rapid rescue operation. Two injured boys were pulled out alive and shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu after receiving initial medical aid.
However, three children including two daughters and one son could not survive and were pronounced dead after being recovered from the rubble, officials confirmed.
Rescue workers later transferred the bodies to the same hospital for legal formalities. Authorities said the structure likely weakened due to continuous rainfall, though a detailed assessment is yet to be conducted.
The tragic incident underscores the vulnerability of poorly constructed houses during extreme weather, raising fresh concerns about public safety in rain-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
