NDMA Issues Nationwide Weather Alert, Warns of Rain, Storms, Hail

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Authorities warn of thunderstorms, snowfall in northern areas, and potential disruptions to travel and infrastructure.

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hailstorms across multiple regions over the next 12 to 24 hours.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), the current weather pattern aligns with its earlier seasonal outlook issued three to four months ago. The authority has already released a broader forecast covering April to June, indicating continued volatile weather conditions.

The alert predicts widespread rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms in most parts of the country. Northern regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, are also expected to receive snowfall in upper and mountainous areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Malakand, Kohistan, Peshawar, and Mansehra are likely to experience rain and windstorms. Similar conditions are expected in Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, authorities have forecast thunderstorms with strong winds. Parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, and Ziarat, are also expected to witness rain and gusty conditions.

NDMA warned that strong winds, lightning, and hail could damage weak structures, trees, crops, and power lines, while slippery roads may disrupt traffic flow. In mountainous areas, snowfall and persistent rain may trigger landslides and affect travel routes.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously, and stay updated through official alerts, including the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application. Authorities have also directed provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert.
