The revised fuel price adjustment will be applied to July electricity bills after Nepra approved a lower increase than originally requested by the CPPA.
Pakistan’s electricity consumers will pay an additional 33 paisa per unit in their July electricity bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a monthly fuel price adjustment for May 2026.
According to the regulator’s official notification, the revised charge will apply to eligible electricity users nationwide, including customers of K-Electric. The increase will be reflected in bills issued during July under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
The decision comes after the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) sought an 82 paisa per unit increase, citing higher fuel generation costs for May 2026. Following its review, Nepra approved a significantly lower adjustment of 33 paisa per unit.
Monthly fuel price adjustments are a routine part of Pakistan’s electricity tariff system, allowing power prices to be revised in line with fluctuations in electricity generation costs. The adjustment varies each month depending on the country’s fuel mix and changes in international energy prices.
Although consumers will see a rise in their electricity bills, the approved increase is substantially lower than the amount initially requested by the CPPA, offering some relief compared with the proposed tariff hike.
