Pakistan Braces for Monsoon Threat as Minister Warns of Floods, Drought, and Climate Risks

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik says Pakistan is strengthening monsoon preparedness, promoting renewable energy, and working with climate experts to improve resilience against extreme weather.

Pakistan is intensifying preparations for the ongoing monsoon season as Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik warned that the country faces increasing risks from floods, droughts, glacier melting, and urban flooding due to climate change.

Speaking during a dialogue with climate experts, environmental activists, and media representatives at the Climate Action Centre in Karachi, the minister said the government is closely monitoring weather developments and reviewing preparedness measures ahead of the peak monsoon period. He noted that rising temperatures are accelerating glacier melt, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall and flooding in northern Pakistan.

Dr. Malik said the country’s reservoirs and dams have the capacity to manage significant volumes of water during periods of excessive rainfall. However, he cautioned that below-normal rainfall could also trigger drought conditions in several regions, while cloudbursts may lead to severe urban flooding in major cities.

He stressed that both floods and droughts threaten agriculture, food security, infrastructure, livelihoods, and the national economy, highlighting the need for coordinated planning and effective disaster response.
