Pakistan joins the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation as a founding member while expanding strategic co-operation with China in trade, technology and CPEC 2.0.
Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their longstanding strategic partnership, with both countries agreeing to expand co-operation in trade, investment, technology and artificial intelligence during high-level talks held in Shanghai.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), where the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations. They reiterated their commitment to the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and discussed ways to accelerate high-quality development under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0).
The meeting also focused on increasing collaboration in the digital economy, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing importance of innovation in bilateral ties.
In a significant development, Ishaq Dar signed the agreement establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) on behalf of Pakistan. By becoming a founding member of the organisation, Pakistan aims to contribute to reducing the global artificial intelligence gap, promote equitable access to advanced technologies and advocate for the development priorities of the Global South in international forums.
