On the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, Pakistan paid tribute to one of its most decorated military heroes, whose extraordinary bravery during the 1999 Kargil conflict continues to inspire the nation. The armed forces and people across the country observed the day with deep respect and remembrance.
According to the ISPR, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the armed forces honored the Nishan-e-Haider recipient for his unwavering courage and sacrifice.
On July 7, 1999, while defending a forward post in the Kargil sector, Havaldar Lalak Jan displayed exceptional valor against enemy attacks. Despite suffering severe injuries, he refused to abandon his position and continued leading fellow soldiers until he embraced martyrdom.
In their message, the military leadership described his supreme sacrifice as a timeless symbol of courage, resilience, and selfless service. They also reaffirmed the armed forces’ and the nation’s unwavering resolve to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Born in 1967 in the Yasin Valley of Ghizer District, Havaldar Lalak Jan served with the 12th Northern Light Infantry (NLI). During the Kargil conflict in May 1999, he voluntarily chose to serve on the front lines, where his unmatched bravery earned him Pakistan’s highest military honor, the Nishan-e-Haider, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism and sacrifice.
