Pakistan and Jordan have renewed calls for urgent international action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, protect holy sites, and advance a peaceful political solution based on international law.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Jordan have expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian and security situation in the Palestinian territories, urging the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to halt the escalating violence in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday to review the latest developments in the region, including ongoing Israeli military operations, intensified airstrikes, and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by Palestinian civilians.
During the discussion, both leaders emphasized the urgent need to reduce tensions, prevent further civilian casualties, and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected populations.
The two foreign ministers also strongly condemned repeated incursions by Israeli settlers and far-right groups into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem. They criticized restrictions imposed on Palestinian worshippers, describing such actions as violations of the sanctity and historical status of one of Islam’s holiest sites.
Dar and Safadi agreed that developments surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound risk further inflaming regional tensions and weakening prospects for a peaceful resolution of the decades-long conflict. They stressed the importance of preserving the site’s historical and legal status while safeguarding freedom of worship.
The conversation also focused on diplomatic initiatives aimed at addressing the crisis. Safadi briefed his Pakistani counterpart on Jordan’s proposal to convene a meeting of Arab and Islamic countries to coordinate a collective diplomatic response, strengthen humanitarian efforts, and encourage greater international engagement.
Both ministers agreed that close coordination among Muslim and Arab nations remains essential for promoting dialogue and preventing further escalation across the region.
Ayman Safadi appreciated Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic support for peace and stability, while Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Islamabad’s longstanding commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s support for a negotiated two-state solution based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. He emphasized the establishment of an independent, sovereign, contiguous, and viable Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) as its capital.
The deputy prime minister also urged the international community to intensify efforts to protect civilians, end the violence, and facilitate humanitarian relief, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law.
