ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Singaporean Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan on Friday discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment, and enhance cooperation in emerging economic sectors during a meeting in Islamabad.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Oct. 30, 2026, the Singaporean foreign minister met the prime minister as the two countries mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
During the meeting, Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and friendly relations with Singapore.
The prime minister appreciated Singapore’s remarkable economic transformation and its achievements in innovation and development. He said Pakistan attached importance to its partnership with Singapore at bilateral and multilateral levels, including through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Both sides discussed opportunities to increase bilateral trade and investment and expand cooperation in several priority sectors.
These included the digital economy, financial technology (fintech), infrastructure development, logistics, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the services sector.
The discussions also focused on exploring new avenues for mutually beneficial economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments during the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums.
The meeting comes as Pakistan and Singapore mark six decades of diplomatic relations, providing an opportunity to build on their longstanding friendship and explore additional areas of economic engagement.
The emphasis on trade, investment, digital economy and infrastructure reflects the sectors both sides identified for expanding practical cooperation.
Pakistan views its engagement with Singapore as important not only through direct bilateral relations but also through broader regional cooperation under the ASEAN framework.
