PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed visited the site of a collapsed private school building in Peshawar’s Deen Colony and vowed legal action against those responsible for putting children’s lives at risk.

Senior police officials, including SSP Operations Farhan Khan and Chief Traffic Officer Peshawar Dr. Zahidullah, accompanied the provincial police chief during the visit.

SSP Operations Farhan Khan briefed the inspector general on the situation following the incident, the rescue and relief operation, and the legal proceedings initiated against those held responsible.

Hameed said the school building was in a dilapidated condition and stressed that those responsible for endangering children’s lives would face action under the law.

He added that some local residents had previously expressed concerns to the school owner about the condition of the building. An inquiry committee, headed by the SSP Investigation, will examine the facts surrounding the incident and determine the circumstances that led to the collapse, according to the police chief.

Hameed said the collapsed school building had been sealed and its owner taken into custody. He added that legal proceedings had been initiated in connection with the incident.

The police chief also commended Peshawar police for their role in the rescue and relief operation. He praised traffic wardens for maintaining traffic flow and facilitating access to hospitals during the emergency.

Expressing sympathy with the families of those who died in the incident, Hameed said the police shared their grief and would work to ensure justice for the victims.

He reiterated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remained prepared to protect the public during difficult circumstances, including incidents of terrorism and other emergencies.

The inquiry committee’s findings are expected to help establish the facts surrounding the building’s condition, the concerns reportedly raised by local residents and the circumstances preceding the collapse.
