Chinese company chairperson Yan Jin presented Rs1 million to PIMS nurse Razia Noreen in recognition of her courage during the nursery fire.
A Chinese company has awarded Rs1 million to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) nurse Razia Noreen for risking her life to save a newborn during a fire at the hospital’s nursery.
The company’s chairperson, Yan Jin, met Noreen and presented her with a cheque for Rs1 million in recognition of her courage and dedication to duty. During the meeting, Yan praised the nurse for her bravery in an extremely dangerous situation.
Yan said saving one life was equivalent to saving all of humanity. She said Noreen demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility by protecting a newborn despite the fire and thick smoke.
The latest reward comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also honoured Noreen for her role during the incident.
Noreen met the prime minister on Sept. 3, when Shehbaz presented her with a cheque for Rs10 million in recognition of her courage and sense of duty.
The prime minister also announced that Noreen would be awarded the Tamgha-i-Khidmat on March 23, saying the nation appreciated her courage and dedication.
The fire at the PIMS nursery resulted in the deaths of 14 newborns after smoke spread through the facility. According to the information provided, 15 newborns were present in incubators when the incident occurred.
Amid the fire and smoke, Noreen reportedly entered the dangerous area without regard for her own safety and managed to move one newborn to a safe location, saving the child’s life.
Her actions have received recognition from both the government and private sector. The awards and proposed national honour reflect the public appreciation for her efforts during the emergency.
