Federal government reiterates its commitment to accelerating development in Gilgit-Baltistan through investments in renewable energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain to discuss regional affairs and review ongoing and future development projects aimed at improving the quality of life across the mountainous region.
During the meeting, the prime minister congratulated Amjad Hussain on assuming office as chief minister and conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure.
Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working closely with the newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan administration to promote sustainable development and improve public welfare. He said the government is actively implementing projects in renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other key sectors to strengthen the region’s economy and public services.
The prime minister highlighted several flagship initiatives, including a 100-megawatt solar power project designed to expand clean energy generation and reduce reliance on conventional power sources. He also emphasized plans to establish Daanish Schools to improve access to quality education for students in Gilgit-Baltistan.
In addition, Shehbaz Sharif said the federal government is planning to establish Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centers in Gilgit to provide residents with modern and efficient public services under one roof.
The meeting reflected the federal government’s focus on accelerating development in Gilgit-Baltistan, a strategically important region known for its tourism potential, natural resources, and role in regional connectivity. Enhanced cooperation between the federal and regional governments is expected to support economic growth, improve public infrastructure, and create new opportunities for local communities.
