Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will represent Pakistan at the 81st UN General Assembly and highlight the country’s priorities on regional and global issues.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York with a small Pakistani delegation to represent Pakistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi will accompany Shehbaz Sharif during his visit.
The prime minister is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Sept. 25, where he will present Pakistan’s position on the evolving regional and global security situation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz will emphasize the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts in addressing security challenges.
He will also highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region and promoting peace and stability.
During his address, the prime minister is expected to outline Pakistan’s priorities on a range of international issues, including sustainable development, climate change, the fight against terrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges.
Shehbaz will also draw the international community’s attention to the long-standing issues of occupation and denial of the right to self-determination in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
The prime minister will participate in several high-level meetings on development, climate action and other key issues on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. He will use these engagements to present Pakistan’s position on matters of international importance.
Shehbaz is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders attending the UN General Assembly session, as well as with the United Nations secretary-general.
