Senior PML-N legislator Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar died after a prolonged illness, prompting tributes from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and political leaders for his decades of public service.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed. His death has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders, party workers, and supporters who remembered him as a committed public representative and veteran politician.
According to family members, Channar had been undergoing treatment for several weeks after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Doctors performed surgery in an effort to save his life, but he could not recover despite continued medical care.
Malik Iqbal Channar was serving as the elected representative from NA-168 Bahawalpur and remained one of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s senior political figures in southern Punjab. Throughout his political career, he maintained a strong connection with his constituents and actively supported development and public welfare initiatives in the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound grief over the veteran lawmaker’s death and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. In his message, the prime minister praised Channar’s political, social, and public contributions, describing him as a loyal, ideological worker who dedicated his life to serving the people and strengthening the PML-N.
Shehbaz Sharif also recalled his long personal association with the late parliamentarian, saying they had worked together on several occasions during his tenure in the Punjab government. He said Channar’s sincerity, loyalty, and commitment to both the party and the public would continue to be remembered with respect.
The prime minister prayed for the departed soul and asked Allah Almighty to grant patience and strength to the family during this difficult time.
