Punjab will assess fire-safety arrangements at 57 government hospitals and install new fire hydrants where required.
Punjab has decided to conduct a detailed review of preventive fire-safety arrangements at 57 government hospitals across the province on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Housing Department, a list of major government hospitals has been prepared for the first phase of the initiative. New fire hydrants will be installed at locations where they are needed.
All Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) agencies have been assigned the task of identifying key locations around Rural Health Centers (RHCs), Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals, District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals and other major public hospitals and improving the existing fire-hydrant infrastructure.
Officials said the availability and functionality of fire hydrants already installed near major hospitals will also be reviewed immediately. New hydrants will be installed where existing facilities are found to be insufficient.
Rescue 1122 and other relevant departments are being provided full assistance as part of the initiative.
The Punjab Housing Department spokesperson said special attention is being given to strengthening fire-prevention arrangements at major government hospitals following a tragic fire at a government hospital in Islamabad.
