Police have launched an investigation after 14 prisoners escaped during their transfer to Adiala Jail, while five on-duty officers were also booked over alleged negligence and security lapses.
Rawalpindi police have registered a criminal case following the escape of 14 prisoners during their transfer to Adiala Jail, naming a total of 19 individuals, including five police personnel assigned to escort duty.
According to police, the case was filed at Sahala Police Station by Guard In-Charge Sub-Inspector Niaz Ali. The FIR includes charges under Sections 155-C and 155-D of the Police Order, along with Sections 120-B, 223, 224, 353, 186, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Investigators said 36 prisoners were being transported in a prisoner van to Adiala Jail when several inmates allegedly created chaos during the journey. As officers attempted to regain control, the prisoners reportedly threw ground red chili powder into the eyes of the escorting personnel, allowing 14 inmates to escape from custody.
Police said a headcount conducted after the incident confirmed that 14 prisoners were missing. The FIR alleges the escapees acted in coordination, resisted law enforcement, obstructed public servants from performing official duties, and unlawfully escaped from custody.
The case also names one sub-inspector and four other police officials for alleged negligence, carelessness, and failure to perform their duties, which authorities believe contributed to the security breach.
