Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Support for Yemen Government Amid Rising Houthi Tensions

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Saudi Arabia has renewed its political and military backing for Yemen’s internationally recognized government as Houthi attacks and regional security concerns intensify.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its full support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, legitimate government and people as renewed fighting and regional security tensions place additional pressure on the war-torn country.

The commitment was reiterated during a Saudi Cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday. The Cabinet reviewed developments in Yemen and wider regional and international issues.

Saudi Arabia has also reaffirmed its political and military support for Yemen’s government, saying it seeks to help restore state institutions from Houthi control. Saudi authorities have accused the Houthi movement of escalating military activity and targeting civilian and economic facilities in the kingdom.

The Cabinet welcomed the outcomes of an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense, held in Riyadh on Oct. 5. The meeting brought together Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye to address security threats facing the kingdom.

The three countries condemned attacks targeting Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities and reaffirmed their collective defense commitments. The meeting also marked an institutional development for the alliance, with retired Pakistani Lt. Gen. Nauman Mahmood appointed as its first secretary-general for a three-year term.

The discussions came amid heightened security concerns linked to the conflict in Yemen. Saudi-led coalition forces have reported intercepting missiles and drones launched from Yemen toward Saudi territory, including a ballistic missile aimed at Khamis Mushait.

Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet has also rejected threats to navigation in the southern Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, highlighting the wider regional implications of the conflict.

The latest developments come as Yemen’s internationally recognized government has intensified military operations against the Houthis, seeking to regain territory and strategic areas, including parts of the Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab region.
