Authorities restrict public movement, close commercial centres and require prior permission for emergency travel in parts of Upper and Lower South Waziristan.

Authorities in Upper and Lower South Waziristan have imposed Section 144 restrictions, closed markets and limited movement on several roads amid security concerns and arrangements for transporting supplies to security forces.

Separate notifications were issued Friday evening by Lower South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman and Upper South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali. The restrictions took effect Saturday and covered multiple localities, commercial areas and routes in the two districts.

In Lower South Waziristan, the restrictions covered Wana Bazaar, the Wana Bypass and other areas. The administration said the measures were intended to address security concerns and facilitate the safe transportation of logistical supplies for security personnel.

Movement was prohibited on several routes passing through Wana, Tiarza Gate, Karab Kot, Tanai, Azizabad Chowk and Dargai Bridge. Roads connecting Gul Kach with Toi Khullah and Tanai were also included.

Travel on the affected routes was permitted only in emergencies and with prior authorisation from the police or security forces. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary movement and comply with official instructions.

Motorists encountering security forces were directed to stop their vehicles at least 50 metres away. Authorities warned that violations of the restrictions could result in legal action under the relevant laws.

In Upper South Waziristan, Section 144 was imposed in Servekai and Sararogha tehsils and surrounding areas. The order also required markets and commercial centres to close as part of security arrangements linked to the transportation of supplies for security forces.

The restrictions covered routes leading to Ladha, Makeen, Sararogha and Nazar Khel, as well as roads connecting Dargai Bridge, Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak and Jandola. Routes passing through Servekai, Moley Khan Sarai, Barwand, Asman Manza and Torwam were also affected.

Residents were instructed to avoid travelling through restricted areas until authorities permitted movement. Emergency travel could be allowed after approval from the police or security forces and verification of identity documents.

The administration also made special arrangements for polio vaccination teams, allowing their members to pass through the affected areas after establishing their identities.

Motorists in Upper South Waziristan were instructed to stop at least 50 metres away from security forces and ensure that all occupants exited their vehicles.

Both district administrations urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow the restrictions. People needing to travel for emergencies were advised to obtain permission before entering the affected routes.

Section 144 empowers district authorities to restrict public movement and certain activities in specified areas when necessary to maintain public order and security. The latest measures are intended to facilitate security operations and the safe transportation of supplies in Upper and Lower South Waziristan.
