Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concludes his Saudi Arabia visit after signing a joint defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Makkah.
MADINAH, Saudi Arabia: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed Madinah for Pakistan on Saturday after completing his visit to Saudi Arabia, during which Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed a landmark joint defence agreement aimed at giving new momentum to trilateral defence cooperation and longstanding fraternal ties.
The prime minister and the Pakistani delegation were seen off at Madinah airport by Madinah Governor Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The key development during Shehbaz Sharif’s visit was the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The agreement is expected to provide a new framework for strengthening defence cooperation among the three countries.
The agreement also carries broader strategic significance as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye seek to deepen cooperation and reinforce their longstanding relations.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also performed Umrah and visited the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, where he paid his respects at the Roza-e-Rasool (PBUH).
The Pakistani delegation accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
