Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to Balochistan, promising increased resources, accelerated development projects, and continued support for education, healthcare and infrastructure.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to the development of Balochistan, saying the province would continue to receive greater resources to improve the lives of its people.
Addressing participants of the Balochistan National Workshop in Islamabad, the prime minister said lasting progress would only be achieved when every resident of Balochistan, whether in Quetta, Kalat, Chaman or remote villages, felt that the federation and all provinces were sincerely working for their prosperity.
Shehbaz Sharif pledged that the government would make every possible effort to promote education, healthcare, economic development and public welfare across the province.
Highlighting past financial support, the prime minister said Punjab had provided Rs150 billion to Balochistan since the 2010 NFC Award. He added that major development schemes were launched during former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s tenure, while the current government had allocated additional funds to meet the province’s legitimate development needs.
The premier also announced that Rs368 billion had been allocated in this year’s budget for water storage projects, including the Kachhi Canal project, which he said would be completed on a priority basis.
Welcoming participants from Balochistan, Shehbaz Sharif described Islamabad as the home of all four provinces and prayed for Pakistan’s continued peace, stability and progress.
