NIRC Peshawar Bench grants interim relief until September 25, 2026, as the WAPDA workers’ union pledges to continue its legal campaign against the Essential Services Act and proposed privatization.
WEB DESK: The All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA) has announced that it has secured a stay order from the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) Peshawar Bench against the enforcement of the Essential Services Act imposed by the government.
According to a media statement issued by Central Deputy Chairman Javed Iqbal Baloch, the stay order will remain in effect until September 25, 2026, providing temporary legal relief to employees of WAPDA, DISCOs, and affiliated institutions across Pakistan.
The union credited the achievement to the efforts of its leadership, including President Abdul Latif Nizamani, Central Secretary Khurshid Ahmad, Vice President Haji Ramzan Achakzai, Central Chairman Gohar Taj, and their legal team. The statement said the leadership pursued an effective legal strategy to safeguard workers’ rights.
The union congratulated employees nationwide and urged them to maintain unity, discipline, and solidarity. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting workers’ rights through legal and constitutional means.
The statement also reiterated the union’s opposition to any proposed privatization of profitable national power distribution companies (DISCOs), pledging to continue resisting such moves through democratic, legal, and constitutional channels.
