Snapchat and LinkedIn Crack Down on Low-Quality AI Content in Major Platform Update

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

New moderation measures aim to reduce the spread of low-quality AI-generated content while promoting authentic creativity and improving user trust.

Snapchat and LinkedIn have unveiled significant policy changes aimed at reducing the spread of low-quality artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content, often referred to as “AI slop.” The updates reflect a broader industry effort to improve content quality, strengthen user trust, and encourage authentic online engagement.

Snapchat announced a major revision to its Spotlight recommendation system. Under the new policy, videos created entirely through AI will no longer qualify for Spotlight recommendations. Users will still be able to upload AI-generated videos, but the platform’s algorithm will prioritize content created primarily by people.

The company also confirmed that creators using Snapchat’s built-in AI tools can remain eligible for recommendations if they clearly disclose AI assistance through proper labels. Snapchat said the approach promotes transparency while continuing to reward originality and creative storytelling.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said the changes are intended to keep Spotlight focused on genuine creativity instead of automated content. The company noted that the number of unique Spotlight contributors has grown by 120% over the past year, signaling increasing participation from creators producing original videos.

LinkedIn has introduced a new reporting option that allows members to flag posts they believe resemble low-quality AI-generated content. Reported posts will automatically disappear from the reporting user’s feed, while the reports will help improve LinkedIn’s AI detection systems.

The Microsoft-owned platform also said posts repeatedly flagged by multiple users could see reduced visibility beyond the creator’s immediate professional network. The goal is to limit the reach of repetitive, spam-like AI content without restricting legitimate discussions.

In another notable change, LinkedIn is retiring its AI-powered “Enhance Your Post” writing feature. It will be replaced with a proofreading tool that focuses on correcting grammar and improving clarity while preserving each user’s individual writing style. The company said the decision reflects its commitment to authentic professional communication rather than encouraging AI-written posts.

The announcements align with a wider trend across the technology industry. Major platforms, including YouTube and Substack, have recently introduced stricter moderation policies and AI-detection tools to curb repetitive, misleading, or low-value AI-generated material.
