Marking World Press Freedom Day, President Asif Ali Zardari delivered a strong and timely message emphasizing that truth remains the cornerstone of peace, while warning of the growing dangers posed by disinformation and irresponsible media practices.
In his statement, the president underscored that journalism plays a pivotal role in shaping informed societies, asserting that “peace is impossible without truth.” He highlighted that the spread of disinformation is increasingly distorting democratic discourse, undermining public trust, and creating divisions within societies.
Zardari expressed concern over the challenges faced by journalists globally, noting that harassment, intimidation, and pressure continue to threaten the integrity of the profession. He stressed the urgent need to ensure a safe and secure environment where journalists can perform their duties without fear.
Addressing the digital landscape, the president described the irresponsible use of social media platforms as alarming. He called for greater accountability and responsible behavior to curb the spread of false narratives, particularly those targeting Pakistan through organized disinformation campaigns.
