WhatsApp is rolling out a dedicated Events hub for Android beta testers, allowing users to create, manage and review events without opening individual chats.
WhatsApp is rolling out a new Events hub designed to make it easier for users to create, manage and review events from a single location.
The feature is currently available to some Android beta testers and adds a dedicated Events section to WhatsApp’s settings. According to WABetaInfo, the section allows users to access existing events and create new ones without having to open individual conversations.
WhatsApp has expanded its event features across group chats, communities and individual conversations in recent updates. However, users previously had to search through chats to find specific events. The new hub brings events together on one page, making them easier to access.
The Events section appears with a badge in the settings menu. It shows both events created by users and events they have been invited to attend.
How to Create an Event on WhatsApp
Users can open the Events hub and select the “Create event” option to set up a new event. They can enter details including the event name, description, start date and time, end time and location.
WhatsApp also allows users to add a WhatsApp call link to an event. A reminder is automatically set for one hour before the event, although users can change the reminder time.
The platform automatically adds the host’s name, while organizers can decide whether guests are allowed to bring additional people. A cover photo can also be added to help identify an event.
Users will continue to have the option to create events directly from chats and groups.
People Without WhatsApp Can Join
The updated event system also allows organizers to invite people who do not have a WhatsApp account.
When an event is created, WhatsApp generates an invitation link. People who receive the link can view basic information, including the event name, date and time, and respond without having a WhatsApp account.
Guests without WhatsApp must provide their name and verify their phone number. After confirming attendance, they can access additional information such as the full event location and WhatsApp call link.
Guests on WhatsApp can see information including the event name, date, time, location, cover photo and guest list. The host can view each guest’s name, response and phone number for event management.
Phone number visibility remains subject to contact settings. Guests can only see another attendee’s number if it is already saved in their contacts.
WhatsApp says personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted.
Availability
The Events hub is rolling out with WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.36.5. It is currently available to some beta testers through the Google Play Store.
