Ramadan Fake Milk Network Busted, 13,000 Liters Destroyed in Major Operation
ISLAMABAD — A massive counterfeit milk operation preparing to flood markets during Ramadan was dismantled in a joint raid by the Punjab Food Authority and Islamabad Food Authority, officials said Friday.
Acting on intelligence, authorities raided a house near Lehtrar Road where 13,000 liters of chemically prepared milk solution were seized and destroyed on-site, according to a spokesperson.
Officials recovered 480 kilograms of banaspati ghee, 50 kilograms of dry powder, and machinery used to manufacture counterfeit milk. Investigators said the fake product was being produced by mixing powdered ingredients and cooking oil to mimic fresh milk.
The entire stock was allegedly intended for distribution across the twin cities during Ramadan, when milk and yogurt consumption surges significantly.
Authorities confirmed that further operations are underway in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with support from the Punjab Food Authority. A formal case has been registered by the Islamabad Food Authority, and investigations are ongoing.
Food safety officials warned that adulteration mafias continue to exploit high-demand seasons, including Ramadan.
Citizens have been urged to report complaints to the official food safety helpline at 1223.
Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring safe food supplies during the holy month.
