Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Punjab Finance Department enforces austerity policy, cutting two days’ basic pay for senior officers across the province.

LAHORE: The Punjab Finance Department has ordered a two-day salary deduction for government officers as part of its austerity measures, according to an official notification issued to all relevant departments.

The directive states that officers in Grade 17 and above will face a deduction equivalent to two days of their basic pay. The measure will be लागू from April 2026 salaries, with the amount directly reduced from monthly payments.

Officials confirmed that the policy applies broadly, covering not only government departments but also autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, government-owned companies, and local government institutions across Punjab.

Authorities said the funds collected through the deductions will be deposited into the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund 2026 Punjab. The initiative aims to reduce public expenditure and strengthen financial discipline amid ongoing economic challenges.

Instructions for implementation have been formally issued to key departments, including the Board of Revenue Punjab and the Planning and Development Board Punjab, as well as all local government bodies in the province.

The move reflects the government’s wider strategy to curb spending while maintaining essential services, though it may draw mixed reactions from affected officers.
